On Monday, February 2, 2026, at approximately 3:00 am, Ms. Nyesha Walden-Hatcher was shot and killed in the 3100 block of 16th Street, NW. The Metropolitan Police Department seeks the public’s assistance in gathering information regarding this homicide.

Academy training for recruit officers lasts approximately 37 weeks. MPD recruit officers complete a full program of classroom, scenario, physical, and tactical training to prepare them for the challenges of being a police officer.
