Circumstance:

Officers Brereton and Winters were staked out in the rear of LeDroit Liquors, 501 Florida Avenue. Two Suspects entered the store and robbed the owner at gun point. As the suspects were leaving, the officers pursued the suspects down an alley. Multiple shots were exchanged and both officers went down.

Officer Brereton died from his injuries, his partner survived.
