Eligibility Requirements to Register a Firearm

Individuals wishing to register a firearm in the District of Columbia must complete a Firearms Statement of Eligiblity Form. This statement of eligibility verifies the following requirements.

The below list is not all inclusive, but does encompass the majority of reasons that firearm applications are usually denied. To have had an application previously approved will not prevent a registration or license being revoked later if anyone of these disqualifying reasons is discovered at a later time.

FIREARM REGISTRATION (FR) APPLICATION

  • Less than 21 years old
  • Possesses Physical Defect that would interfere with the safe handling/use
  • Dishonorably Discharge from Armed Forces
  • Renounced US Citizenship
  • Refused to be Interviewed
  • Refused to be Fingerprinted
  • Refused to be Photographed
  • Refused to Pay Fee - Fingerprints
  • Refused to Pay Fee - Registration
  • Refused to Pay Fee - Instructor
  • Failed to Sign Forms
  • Failed to Complete Application Package Forms
  • Failed to Complete Firearms Training
