Second District Comander

Commander, Second District

Tatjana Savoy currently serves as the commander of the Metropolitan Police Department’s Second District, located in the Northwest quadrant of the District of Columbia. The Second District includes a number of residential neighborhoods and commercial areas. It is also home to some of DC’s most beautiful and treasured landmarks. Savoy was promoted to commander by Chief of Police Pamela A. Smith in November 2023.

Savoy began her career as a patrol officer with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Seventh District in 2002. During this time, Savoy’s assignments included details to the VICE Squad and the Auto Theft Unit. In October 2006, Savoy was transferred to the Washington Area Vehicle Enforcement Task Force (WAVE), under the Special Investigation Branch where she worked with federal and local agencies to apprehend suspects operating stolen vehicles across jurisdictional boundaries. When the WAVE Task Force disbanded in January of 2010, Savoy returned to the Seventh District where she patrolled the Business Beat Unit along the Alabama Avenue Southeast corridor.

In May of 2014, Savoy was assigned as an investigator in the Youth Investigations Division. In October that same year, she was promoted to sergeant and took a post in the First District. In November 2019, Savoy was promoted to the lieutenant and transferred to the Fourth District to assist with patrol operations. When she was promoted to captain in May 2021, she returned to the First District to head up the Nightlife Task Force. That team worked to engage community members and bring together resources along the H Street Northeast corridor to implement targeted strategies to increase safety with an emphasis on reducing crime. Savoy brought her extensive experience working patrols and nightlife operations when she transferred to the Second District in December of 2023.

Savoy has worked in every quadrant of the city to include a wide variety of neighborhoods such as Historic Anacostia, Petworth, Lamond/Riggs, Capitol Hill, Georgetown, Foggy Bottom, and the Downtown Business District.

Savoy has received numerous awards and commendations during her career with Metropolitan Police Department, including Achievement Medals and Unit Citations. Savoy earned a BS in Sociology, Criminal Justice from Bowie State University.
