Seventh District Commander

Position/Title: 
Commander, Seventh District

Kevin L. Harding currently serves as the commander of the Seventh District, a role he assumed in May 2026 after more than two decades of service with the Metropolitan Police Department.

Harding began his career with the department in 2003 as a patrol officer in the Fifth District. He quickly advanced to a vice investigator, handling complaints involving illicit drug activity, prostitution, gambling, and gun violence.

In 2014, he was promoted to sergeant and became a frontline supervisor in the Third District. Shortly thereafter, he transferred to the Seventh District, where he supervised the Warrant Apprehension Unit.

The following year, in 2015, Harding moved to the Narcotics and Special Investigations Division, overseeing both the Narcotic Enforcement and Criminal Apprehension units.

Harding was promoted to lieutenant in 2018 and assigned to the First District, where he managed the evening tour of duty in Sector 2.

In 2019, he joined Patrol Services South (PSS) in an administrative role supporting the patrol chief. His responsibilities included managing daily office operations, reviewing administrative correspondence, and providing feedback on departmental policies.

In 2021, Harding transitioned to the Criminal Investigations Division, overseeing daily operations at the Second District Detective Unit and assisting detectives investigating violent and property crimes.

He was promoted to captain in 2022 and returned to the First District, where he managed 24-hour patrol operations in Sector 3. He also attended community and advisory council meetings and engaged regularly with community members and leaders.

Before his appointment as commander, Harding served as a captain with the District Investigations Division.

Throughout his career, Commander Harding has received numerous accolades, including being named the 2018 Lieutenant of the Year for Patrol Services South. He was also part of the 2013 Vice Unit of the Year (5D).

Harding holds a Bachelor of Science in Health and Exercise Science from Eastern University.
