Police Headquarters

Metropolitan Police Headquarters
Henry J. Daly Building
300 Indiana Avenue, NW
Washington, DC 20001
(202) 727-4218

Metropolitan Police Headquarters—the Henry J. Daly Building—is located at 300 Indiana Avenue, NW—two blocks north of Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, between 4th and 5th Streets, NW. The building is named for Sergeant Henry J. Daly, a 28-year veteran of the Metropolitan Police Department who was killed November 22, 1994, by an armed intruder in the building. In a fitting tribute to this devoted homicide sergeant, the Council of the District of Columbia enacted DC Law 11-120, designating the Municipal Center as the Henry J. Daly Building.

Services Offered at Police Headquarters

The Daly Building houses most of the administrative units of the MPDC. At Headquarters, individuals can:

  • Retrieve copies of police and traffic crash reports
  • Obtain police clearances
  • Register their firearms as required or allowed by law
  • Register as a known sex offender as required by law

Access to the building is controlled. All members of the public must pass through metal detectors to gain entry to the building.

Getting to Police Headquarters

Police Headquarters is easily accessible by public transportation. It is located directly across the street from the Judiciary Square Metro stop on the Red Line. Take the 4th Street exit from the station. The nearest bus stop is located two blocks away, at 4th and E Streets, NW.

Parking near Headquarters is extremely limited. No public parking is available at the Daly Building itself. Very limited on-street metered parking is available on Indiana Avenue just west of the building and on C Street on the south side of the building.

Some public parking is available at 441 4th Street, NW, the One Judiciary Square Building; however, this lot is usually full by early morning. Commercial parking lots are located within several blocks of Police Headquarters, on 5th, 6th and 7th Streets, NW.
