At approximately 12:15 pm, on Wednesday, January 25, 2006, a citizen located an unconscious 41-year-old black female, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head, lying in the rear of the Kimball Elementary School located at 3375 Minnesota Avenue, SE.  DC Fire and Emergency Medical Servcies personnel responded to the scene, but could find no signs consistent with life.

The victim was subsequently transported to the DC Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where she was pronounced dead at 2:52 pm.  She has been identified as 41-year-old Josheryl Bird, of no fixed address.

The Metropolitan Police Department is currently offering a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
