Traffic Fatality: Suitland Parkway, Southeast

(Washington, DC)-Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Unit are investigating a traffic fatality which occurred on Suitland Parkway, Southeast.

On Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at approximately 11:25 pm, the driver of a 2002 BMW X5 was traveling east bound on the Suitland Parkway, Southeast.  Prior to approaching Stanton Road, the driver lost control of the vehicle, struck a parked vehicle and a portable light trailer, which was attached to the vehicle. The impact caused the light trailer to rotate, striking a construction worker, who was standing next to the parked vehicle.  The operator of the BMW was transported to a local hospital where she was treated and released.  The construction worker remained on the scene and was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where he was pronounced dead.

The decedent has been identified as 34 year-old Travis Jackson of Alexandria, Virginia.

This crash is currently under investigation.
