Investigators with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating a fatal traffic incident that occurred on Thursday, January 11, 2018, on the west bound on-ramp of Interstate 695 (Southeast/Southwest Freeway), from Interstate 295.
A preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 4:27 pm, a Cadillac CTS was traveling in the left lane on the ramp of Interstate 695, headed westbound, when a Honda CBRR 1000 motorcycle collided into the vehicle. The on-scene investigation has determined that the operator of the motorcycle lost control, causing a second collision with the Cadillac. The operator of the motorcycle then departed from the motorcycle resulting in the motorcycle operator landing upon the embankment. The District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene and determined that the operator of the motorcycle had no signs of life. The driver of the Cadillac CTS remained on scene.
The decedent has been identified as 56 year-old Emanuel Sweeny Jr., of Clinton, MD.
