Traffic Fatality: 4700 Block of Southern Avenue, SE

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Unit are investigating a pedestrian fatality resulting from a traffic collision, which occurred in the 4700 block of Southern Avenue, SE.

On Monday, June 25, 2012, units from the Sixth District responded to a pedestrian traffic collision with injury which occurred at approximately 7:04 pm in the 4700 block of Southern Avenue. A red 2010 Toyota Camry was traveling southwest bound in the 4700 block of Southern Avenue SE when it collided with a silver 2007 Nissan Maxima that was traveling in a northeasterly direction on Southern Avenue.  A pedestrian walking in the crosswalk was struck by one of the vehicles and was transported to an area hospital where he was admitted in critical condition.

On November 5, 2012, at approximately 9:17 pm the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by a member of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The decedent has been identified as 62 year-old Maurice Franklin of Southeast, Washington, DC.

The Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Unit is investigating this crash.
