Traffic Fatality in the 3000 Block of Connecticut Avenue, NW

On Thursday, December 1, 2005, at approximately 7:32 pm, police were called to the 3000 block of Connecticut Avenue, NW, for the report of a traffic accident. It is reported that 73-year-old Charles Atherton, of the 3100 block of Newark Street, NW, was walking across the street in a southwesterly direction on Connecticut Avenue, NW, when, he was struck by a 2005 Toyota Corolla operated by 31-year-old Dyanes Pacheco-Costello, of the 100 block of U Street, NW, who was traveling in a southeast direction on Connecticut Avenue, NW.

The investigation indicates the accident was apparently the result of a pedestrian violation and a ticket was issued for Walking to Create a Hazard.  

Mr. Atherton was transported to the George Washington University Hospital where he died as a result of his injuries at 8:43 pm, on Saturday, December 3, 2005.
