Traffic Fatality in the 2500 Block of East Capitol Street, NE

At approximately 11:30 pm on Friday, December 16, 2005, 30-year-old Morris Stokes, last known address in the 300 block of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /?>Anacostia Road, SE, was apparently operating a 1995 Chevrolet Lumina at a high rate of speed, westbound in the 2500 block of East Capitol Street, NE. It was at this time that the vehicle reportedly struck the curb and flipped over.  Mr. Stokes, who was seat belted, was partially ejected and received head injuries. 


DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel were called to the scene but found no signs consistent with life. Mr. Stokes was taken to the DC Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and pronounced dead.


The crash remains under investigating by the MPDC's Major Crash Investigations Unit. This was the 46th traffic fatality of the year in DC.
