Between March 3 and March 8, 2006, there have been seven robberies or attempted robberies of taxi cab drivers within the Metropolitan Police Department's Fourth District.<?xml:namespace prefix = o /?>
The following incidents are under investigation:
- At approximately 8:45 pm, on March 3, in the 1300 block of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 /?>Hamilton Street, NW. In this case, a subject reportedly assaulted a cab driver in an attempt to obtain money. A struggle ensued, and the cab crashed in the 1300 block of Hamilton Street, NW. The suspect fled. He is described as a black male, 6'0" tall, weighing about 200 pounds and wearing a black coat and blue jeans.
- At approximately 5:48 am, on March 4, a subject assaulted a cab driver in the 1300 block of Kennedy Street, NW, during an attempted robbery. The driver managed to flee the area. The suspect is described as a black male in his late 20s, 5'10" to 6'0" tall, heavy build and wearing dark clothing.
- At approximately 8:35 pm, on March 6, a subject attempted to rob a driver in the 900 block of Aspen Street, NW. The driver crashed into a parked car, and the suspect fled. He is described as a black male, 6'0" tall, weighing about 200 pounds and wearing a yellow jacket.
- At approximately 1:40 pm, on March 7, a suspect assaulted a cab driver while at 13th Street and Quebec Place, NW. An altercation ensued, and the suspect fled. He is described as a black male in his late 20s, 5'9" tall and wearing a brown jacket.
- At approximately 3:30 pm, on March 7, a suspect struck a driver with an unknown object and obtained cash before fleeing in the 900 block of Aspen Street, NW. He is described as a black male, 6'0" to 6'2" tall, 170 to 180 pounds and wearing a brown jacket.
- At approximately 2:40 am, on March 8, a suspect assaulted and robbed a driver at 8th Street and Illinois Avenue, NW, before fleeing. He is described as a black male in his 30s, 6' tall and wearing a yellow jacket and yellow boots.
- At approximately 9:40 am, on March 8, a suspect robbed a driver in the 800 block of Allison Street, NW. The suspect is described as a black male, 5'8" to 5'11" tall, weighing about 150 pounds and wearing a yellow jacket.
Anyone with information about these cases is asked to call police at (202) 727-9099. The department currently offers a reward of up to $5,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any robbery committed in the District of Columbia.
