Street Closings Planned for Special Events

Three different events scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 12, will require street closures and may create some traffic congestion in areas around the National Mall and the old Convention Center.

This is to advise the public that on Saturday, May 12, 2007, there will be several special events taking place in the District of Columbia that will necessitate street closings. The events that are scheduled to take place are listed below.


  • Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, will be closed between 3rd and 6th Streets, NW, on Saturday, May 12, 2007, from 2 am until 11 pm 
  • Access to Pennsylvania Avenue will be restricted at 4th Street and Madison Drive, NW , 6th Street and Constitution Avenue, NW, and 3rd Street and Constitution Avenue, NW

This race is scheduled to begin at 8 am on Saturday, May 12, 2007, and will conclude at 11 am.  There will be anticipated rolling street closures as the runners proceed along the route. The participants are scheduled to assemble at 3rd and F Streets, NW, and proceed along the following route:

South on 3rd Street, NW, from F Street,  east on Independence Avenue, SW , North on 1st Street, SE,  east on Constitution Avenue, NE, south on 2nd Street, NE, west on Independence Avenue, SE, north on 3rd Street, SW, west on D Street, NW, north on 4th Street, NW, east on E Street, NW, ending on E Street between 4th and 5th Streets, NW.

This event is scheduled to be held on Saturday, May 12, 2007, at the site of the old DC Convention Center located at 11th Street and New York Avenue, NW. The event will run from 11 am until 8 pm. At this time there are no scheduled street closures planned for this event, however motorists in that area should be aware of possible increased pedestrian activity.
