Various traffic restrictions will be in effect on Tuesday for the President's 9 pm speech in the US Capitol.
The Metropolitan Police Department advises the public that street closings and parking restrictions will be in effect on Tuesday, January 23, 2007, in conjunction with the 2007 Presidential State of the Union Address. It is anticipated that temporary street closures will begin at 7 pm on January 23,and are scheduled to be re-opened at approximately 11:30 pm. The following streets listed below will be affected by these closings:
- Constitution Avenue, between Louisiana Avenue, NW, and 2nd Street, NE
- Independence Avenue, between Washington Avenue, SW, and I Street, SE
- Pennsylvania Avenue, between 3rd Street and 1st Street, NW
- Maryland Avenue, between 3rd Street and 1st Street, SW
- Maryland Avenue, between 1st Street and 2nd Street, NE
- 1st Street, between Massachusetts Avenue and C Street, NE
- 1st Street,between Independence Avenue, SW, and Washington Avenue, NW
- 1st Street, between Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, and Louisiana Avenue, NW
- East Capitol Street, between 1st Street and 2nd Street, NE
- South Capitol Street, between Independence Avenue and D Street, SE
- New Jersey Avenue, between Constitution Avenue and Massachusetts Avenue, NE
- New Jersey Avenue, between Independence Avenue and D Street, SE
- Delaware Avenue, between Constitution Avenue and Massachusetts Avenue, NE
- C Street, between Delaware Avenue and 2nd Street, NE
- D Street, NW, between Louisiana Avenue and 2nd Street, NE
In addition, "no parking" restrictions will be in effect at the following locations from 3 pm until 11 pm on January 23:
- 1st Street NW/SW, between Louisiana Avenue and Washington Avenue
- Maryland Avenue, between 1st Street and 3rd Street, NW
- Pennsylvania Avenue, between 1st Street and 3rd Street, NW
- Constitution Avenue, between Delaware Avenue and First Street, NE (from 6 pm until 11 pm)
