Police Involved Shooting: Suspect Arrested in the 400 Block of Kenyon Street, NW

The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a police involved shooting which occurred in the rear of 400 block of Kenyon Street, NW.

Preliminary investigation reveals that on Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at approximately 10:50 pm police officers in the Third District’s Crime Suppression Unit, were patrolling in the vicinity of Georgia Avenue and Kenyon Street, NW when they encountered an adult male who appeared to have a weapon. The male ran east on Kenyon Street. The police officers pursued him into an alley in the 400 block of Kenyon Street, NW.  The suspect then pulled out a handgun, and pointed it at one of the police officers.  An officer fired his service weapon striking the suspect. The suspect was placed under arrest without further incident.  DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported the suspect to a local hospital for treatment.  

The suspect has been identified as 27 year-old Mark Vanderhall of Suitland, Maryland.  He has been charged with Felony Assault on a Police Officer and Carrying a Pistol.

No police officers were injured in this incident.  The Metropolitan Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division is conducting the investigation.
