Police Involved Shooting in the 1600 Block of Trinidad Avenue, NE

The Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating a fatal police involved shooting which occurred yesterday evening in the 1600 block of Trinidad Avenue, NE.

At approximately 8:50 pm, uniformed patrol officers from the Fifth District responded to the 1600 block of Trinidad Avenue, NE, for the report of a man armed with a knife. Upon arrival officers were advised by an adult female complainant that she had been verbally threatened by a male subject during the course of an apparent domestic dispute. On the scene officers subsequently located the adult male suspect in the rear of the location.  While attempting to investigate the individual, the suspect suddenly produced a knife and reportedly lunged at the officers while verbally threatening them. The officers in apparent imminent fear of their lives as the suspect repeatedly ignored orders to drop the knife subsequently fired their service weapons striking the suspect. The suspect was transported to the Washington Hospital Center’s MedStar Unit and pronounced dead. 
The identity of the decedent in this case is being withheld at this time to ensure the proper notification of the next of kin.

A knife was recovered on the scene of this incident.

The officers involved in this case have been identified as 26-year-old Hosam Nasr and 27-year-old Michael Callahan.  Both members are 3-year-veterans of the department. In accordance with departmental policy both members have been placed on routine administrative leave with pay. This case remains under investigation by the Force Investigation Branch from the department’s Internal Affairs Branch.
