Persons of Interest Sought in Homicide: 900 Block of 8th Street, Southeast

The Metropolitan Police Department seeks the public's assistance in identifying two persons of interest in reference to a homicide incident that occurred in the 900 block of 8th Street, Southeast on Sunday, May 8, 2016.

At approximately 2:54 am, members of the First District responded to a call for an aggravated assault. Upon arrival on the scene, members located an unconscious adult male suffering from apparent head trauma. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was admitted for treatment. 

On Thursday, May 12, 2016, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. His remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner where an autopsy was performed. On Monday, May 23, 2016, it was determined that the cause of death was from blunt force trauma to the head and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.

The decedent has been identified as 28-year-old Shamel Lancaster of Southeast, DC.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at (202) 727-9099. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411.
