Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding a pedestrian fatality that occurred at <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /?>9th Street, NE.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /?>

A preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 4:22 am on Tuesday, March 2, 2010, a 2005 Mack Truck was reportedly traveling southbound in the 1800 block of 9th Street, NE, when it struck an unidentified adult male pedestrian who had suddenly entered the roadway and was apparently not in a marked crosswalk area. As a result of the impact, the pedestrian suffered multiple traumas and was subsequently pronounced dead on the scene by a representative from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia.

The 44-year-old male operator of the striking vehicle, which remained on the scene, suffered no apparent physical injuries as a result of this accident.

At this time no charges have been placed in connection with this case which remains under active investigation by members from the department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit.
