Detectives assigned to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide and Sexual Offenses Branch are currently investigating a triple shooting on <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /?>Hayes Street, NE which resulted in one fatality.

At approximately 3:00 am on Sunday, September 14, 2008, officers from the Sixth District responded to the 3700 block of Hayes Street, NE to investigate the report of the sound of gunfire. Upon arrival, they located three adult males suffering from gunshot wounds.
DC Fire Department emergency medical personnel responded to the scene, but could find no life signs in one of the victims, who sustained at least one gunshot wound to the upper body. Subsequently, the victim, who has been identified as 24-year-old Anthony Maurice Washington, of the 3500 block of Jay Street, NE, was pronounced dead on the scene by a representative from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia.
The two surviving victims, one of whom sustained a gunshot wound to the wrist and the other a gunshot wound to the shoulder, were taken to area hospitals for treatment of apparently non-life-threatening injuries. Their identities are being withheld because they are witnesses in the case.
