Metropolitan Police Department 10th Annual Awards Ceremony

The Metropolitan Police Department honored outstanding police officers, civilian employees, agency partners and community members who have helped to make DC neighborhoods safer over the past year. Individuals and organizations were recognized during the MPD’s 10th Annual Awards Ceremony, held Wednesday evening, February 24, 2010 at the Town Hall Education, Arts, and Recreation Campus (THEARC), at <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /?>1901 Mississippi Avenue in Southeast DC.

Among the MPD employees honored were the following:

  • <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /?>

    Officer Alexandros Varvounis of the Third District received the Officer of the Year Medal.

  • The Sergeant of the Year Award was presented to Robert Alder of the Homicide Branch.

  • The Lieutenant of the Year Award was presented to Michael Farish of the Homicide Branch.
  • The Captain of the Year Award was presented to Kimberly Chisley-Missouri, who is now the Commander of the Fourth District.

  • Detective Robert Saunders of the Criminal Investigations Division was named Detective of the Year.

  • Karen Wiggins, who serves as the Manager of the Firearms and Fingerprint Examination Division, received the Civilian Employee of the Year Award.

  • Fifth District Commander Lamar Greene received the Commander of the Year Award.

  • Assistant Chief of the Year was awarded to Assistant Chief Diane Groomes who oversees the Patrol Services and School Seurity Bureau.
