Homicide on Stanton Road, SE

Police are investigating the death of a 16-year-old male.

Detectives assigned to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are currently investigating a homicide on <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /?>Stanton Road, SE. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /?>

On Tuesday, December 22, 2009, at approximately 3:20 pm, residents of the Stanton Glenn Apartments, located at 3064 Stanton Road, SE, complained about a foul odor in the building.  The building engineers were summoned to the building and located the smell coming from inside of an apartment.  They gained entry and discovered a victim in a decomposed state suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.  The victim has been identified as 16-year-old Deonte Payton of the 1800 block of  Frederick Douglass Place, SE.  His remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia where the autopsy will be performed.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.

If the information provided by the caller to the Crime Solvers Unit leads to an arrest and indictment, that caller will be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
