Homicide in the 6100 block of Banks, Place NE

A 19-year-old male was fatally shot.

Detectives assigned to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating the fatal shooting that occurred in the 6100 block of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /?>Banks Place, NE.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /?>

On Saturday, July 3, 2010, at approximately 12:10 am, officers from the Sixth District were dispatched to the 6100 block of Banks Place, NE, for the report of a shooting.  Upon their arrival, they located the victim lying on the ground suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.  DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to an area hospital where he was admitted in critical condition.  The victim succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, July 4, 2010, at approximately 1:16 am. 

The decedent has been identified as 19-year-old Joshua Hopkins of the 300 block of 62nd Street, NE.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.

Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to DC CRIME SOLVERS at 1-866-411-TIPS and to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411. If the information provided by the caller to the Crime Solvers Unit leads to an arrest and indictment, that caller will be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
