Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the 5000 block of Jay Street, Northeast, on Friday, December 9, 2016.
At approximately 9:07 am, members of the Sixth District responded to the rear of the listed location for the report of an unconscious male. Upon arrival, officers discovered a juvenile male suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
On Friday, January 5, 2018, the victim was pronounced dead. The victim was transported to the DC Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy. On Saturday, January 6, 2018, an autopsy was performed on the decedent’s remains. The cause of death was determined to be a gunshot wound and the manner of death was ruled a Homicide.
The victim has been identified as 17 year-old James Colter, of Northeast, DC,
