Homicide in the 4800 Block of Benning Road, SE

Twenty-three year-old Jasmin McCray was killed and a man was injured.

The Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating the fatal shooting of a woman which occurred on Monday, May 5, 2008 in the 4900 block of Benning Road, SE.

At approximately 3:07 am on Monday, officers from the Sixth District responded to the 4800 block of Benning Road, SE to investigate the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult female lying in the street suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head.  The victim, identified as 23-year-old Jasmine McCray of the 4900 block of G Street, SE, was transported to Howard University Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 3:43 am.

During the course of their investigation, officers located another gunshot victim at the Benning Road location. That victim, an adult male, was treated and released at an area hospital for an apparently non-life threatening injury.  His identity is being withheld because he is a potential witness in the case.

This murder is under investigation by detectives assigned to the department’s Homicide and Sexual Offenses Branch.  As part of their ongoing investigation, detectives are working to determine any possible correlation between these two shootings.
