Detectives assigned to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating the fatal shooting that occurred in the 4300 block of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /?>Wheeler Road, SE.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /?>
On Monday, August 30, 2010, at approximately 9:50 pm, members of the Seventh District responded to the report of a shooting in the 4300 block of Wheeler Road, SE, where they located two gunshot victims.
The first victim, identified as James Hawkins Jr., a 30 year-old male, of Temple Hills, Md, suffering from a gunshot wound to the body. Emergency Medical Services personnel responded and transported the victim to an area hospital where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries. The second person struck by gunfire during this shooting was transported to an area hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.
