Shortly before 8:30 pm on Thursday, January 5, 2006, Metropolitan Police and DC Fire and Emergency Medical Service personnel responded to the 4200 block of 4th Street, SE, to investigate the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered a male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head lying in the rear of 4205 4th Street. Emergency medical personnel could find no life signs. He was taken to the DC Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and pronounced dead.
The decedent is identified as 16-year-old Charles Cokely of the 4300 block of 3rd Street, SE.

The Metropolitan Police Department is currently offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
