Homicide in the 400 Block of 33rd Street, SE

At approximately 11:53 pm, on Tuesday, May 16, 2006, Metropolitan Police were called to the 400 block of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /?>33rd Street, SE, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, police discovered three victims suffering from apparent multiple gunshot wounds to the body.


One victim, identified as 20-year-old Crystal Smith, of the 3200 block of Ely Place, SE, was found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. She was taken to the WashingtonHospitalCenter's MedStar Unit and pronounced dead.

Two other victims were located suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to their legs. A 15-year-old female suffered gunshot wounds to her leg, and a 16-year-old male suffered a gunshot wound in both legs.  They were transported to area hospitals and admitted in stable condition. The identities of these two victims are being withheld at this time because they are considered witnesses in this case.


The case is under investigation by members of the department's Violent Crimes Branch. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call police at (202) 727-9099.


The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
