Homicide in the 3000 block of Nelson Place, SE

A 66-year-old man was fatally shot.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting which occurred in the 3000 block of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /?>Nelson Place, SE.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /?>


On Saturday, July 3, 2010 at approximately 4:20 pm units from the Sixth District responded to the 3000 block of Nelson Place, SE to investigate the report of a shooting. Upon arriving on the scene officers found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported the victim to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.


The victim is identified as 66 year-old John Hamer Pernell of SE, Washington, DC.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.

If the information provided by the caller to the Crime Solvers Unit leads to an arrest and indictment, that caller will be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
