Homicide: 200 Block of 55th Street, Northeast

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the 200 block of 55th Street, Northeast on Sunday, May 29, 2016.

At approximately 1:30 am, members of the Sixth District responded to a call at the listed location for the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival on the scene, members located an adult male victim, suffering from a gunshot wound. The first victim was found unconscious and unresponsive.  He succumbed to his injuries, and was pronounced dead. 

A second victim was found in the 5500 block of Blaine Street, Northeast, suffering from gunshot wounds.  The second victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. 

The decedent has been identified as 39-year-old William Arthur Wells Jr., of Southeast, DC.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.  Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at (202) 727-9099.  Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411.
