Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Unit are investigating a hit and run that resulted in a traffic fatality which occurred in the 2700 block of Georgia Avenue, NW.
On Sunday, September 14, 2014, at approximately 3:17 am, a pedestrian was crossing the street in the 2700 block of Georgia Avenue, NW when he was struck by a vehicle that was traveling northbound on Georgia Avenue, NW. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The striking vehicle was last seen fleeing westbound on Girard Street from Georgia Avenue, NW and is described as a dark colored four door vehicle, possibly a Chrysler product, with stock chrome wheels having noticeable damage on the driver’s side.
The decedent has been identified as 26 year-old Bareket Haile of Northeast, Washington, DC.
This crash is currently under investigation.
