Detectives assigned to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide which occurred in the 4200 block of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /?>9th Street, SE. The case was closed on the scene with one arrest.

On Thursday, March 5, 2009, at approximately 9:30 am, members of the Seventh District responded to the 4200 block of 9th Street, SE. Upon arrival on the scene, they encountered a male suspect armed with a handgun. The suspect was disarmed and taken into custody.
Based upon information reportedly provided by the suspect, officers responded to his home, an apartment in the 4200 block of 9th Street, SE, where they found the suspect’s mother suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, identified as 54-year-old Margaret Taylor, of the 9th Street address, was transported by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department personnel to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead at 10:48 am. Subsequently, the victim’s remains were transported to Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia.
The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Damon Darnell Taylor, has been charged with First Degree Murder While Armed.
