Members of Metropolitan Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division are investigating a fatal police involved shooting that occurred in the 3200 block of Wheeler Road SE. On Saturday, October 4, 2014, at approximately 11:40 pm, members of the Seventh District responded to an apartment to assist members of the United States Marshals Service in serving a felony arrest warrant.

Upon entering the location, the wanted suspect produced a handgun and refused to comply with commands to drop the weapon. A member of the US Marshals Service and an MPD officer discharged their weapons striking the suspect, who was later was pronounced dead. He has been identified as 35-year-old Michael Abney of Northeast, Washington, DC.

The investigation is ongoing.
