Double Shooting on Burns Street, SE

At approximately 4:49 this morning, Friday, July 7, 2006, police were called to the rear of 2516 Burns Street, SE, for the report of a man down.  Upon arrival officers located 24-year-old Jason Rasheed Lyons, of the 1400 block of 34th Street, SE, behind a dumpster suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head.  He was taken to the DC Medical Examiner's Office and pronounced dead.

A second male victim in this incident, who sustained a gunshot wound to the chest, was located a short time later in the 2600 block of Minnesota Avenue, SE.  He was transported to an area hospital and admitted in critical condition.  His identity is being withheld because he is a potential witness in the case.

The case is under investigation by members of the department's Violent Crimes Branch.

The department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information the leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible of any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
