Decedent Identified in the Police Involved Shooting: 4200 Block of 4th Street, SE

The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a police involved shooting which occurred in the 4200 block of 4th Street, SE.  

Preliminary investigation reveals that at approximately 5:47 pm on Friday, August 24, 2012, officers in the Seventh District responded to the 4200 block of 4th Street, SE for the report of threats to do bodily harm.  Upon arriving on the scene, the officers encountered an adult male armed with a knife who approached the officers brandishing the knife.  The officers directed the suspect to drop the knife.  The suspect failed to comply, which resulted in the officers firing their service weapons striking the suspect.  DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported the suspect to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

 The decedent has been identified as 24-year-old Albert Jermaine Payton of Southeast, DC.  

The Metropolitan Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division is conducting the investigation.
