At approximately 6:15 pm, on Wednesday, May 3, 2006, a citizen carried a 7-year-old female into the Fourth District police station, located at <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /?>6001 Georgia Avenue, NW.  The citizen advised station members that the child was having difficulty breathing. Officer Aaron Harper, 30, a six-year veteran of the MPDC, immediately radioed the Office of Unified Communications and requested the assistance of DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel.

It was at this time that the child reportedly stopped breathing. A station officer and a Reserve Officer, with instructional assistance from a desk sergeant, administered CPR to revive the child. The child was taken to Children's National Medical Center and admitted for observation. She was released on Thursday, May 4, 2006.

Chief Ramsey personally commended these 4D members for their quick and dedicated actions:

  • Reserve Officer Antonio Reid, 31, a six-year veteran
  • Officer Alvyn Dowe, 39, a 16-year veteran
  • Desk Sergeant Angela Sanders, 43, a 16-year veteran
