Arrests Made in Homicide in the 700 block of 21st Street, NE

An adult male and a male juvenile face felony murder charges.

The Metropolitan Police Department has announced arrests have been made in the homicide of Carlos Bernard Alexander, which occurred in the 700 block of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /?>21st Street, NE.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /?>

On the afternoon of Monday, February 15, 2010, a 16-year-old male was arrested in connection with the death of Mr. Alexander. The suspect’s identity is being withheld at this time because he is a juvenile. Additionally, on the morning of Tuesday, February 16, 2010, 18-year-old Daquan Johnson was arrested. The two suspects were arrested by members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force pursuant to arrest warrants charging them with Felony Murder in the death of Mr. Alexander.

On Wednesday, February 3, 2010, shortly after 7 am, members of the Fifth District responded to the 700 block of 21st Street, NE for the report of an unconscious person.  Upon arrival, they located an adult male lying in front of an apartment building. The victim was unconscious and unresponsive.  Personnel from the DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department responded to the scene, but could find no life signs.

The victim, identified as 47-year-old Carlos Bernard Alexander of the 400 block of 53rd Street, NE later was officially pronounced dead on the scene by a representative of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia.  The body was then transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office pending an autopsy. On Friday, February 12, 2010, the manner of death was ruled homicide due to complications resulting from blunt force injuries.
