Arrest Made in the Homicide of Thomas Short

A 16-year-old juvenile male is being charged as adult.

Detectives assigned to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have announced that an arrest has been made in the homicide of Thomas Short who was fatally shot in the 1100 block of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /?>Howard Road, SE, on July 24, 2009.  Sixteen-year-old Joseph Curtis of Southeast Washington was arrested by members from the Homicide Branch on the morning of Tuesday, September 29, 2009. He is being charged as an adult under Title 16 of the DC Code with Murder Two While Armed in this case. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /?>

At approximately 10:37 pm on Friday, July 24, 2009, officers from the Seventh District were called to the 1100 block of Howard Road, SE, to investigate the report of a shooting. Upon arrival they discovered 18-year-old Thomas Short of the unit block of Elmira Street, SW, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was subsequently transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at noon on Sunday, July 26, 2009.
