Arrest Made in the Homicide of George Rawlings

Detectives assigned to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have announced that an arrest has been made in the homicide of George Rawlings, who was fatally shot in the 1400 block of H Street, NE, on November 11, 2009. At approximately 9:45 pm on Friday, November 13, 2009, 17-year-old Jeffrey Britt was arrested in Landover, Maryland by the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, and transported to the Homicide Branch for processing. Mr. Britt, of no fixed address, has been charged with First Degree Murder While Armed, pursuant to an arrest warrant in the death of George Rawlings. Mr. Britt is being charged as an adult under Title 16 of the District of Columbia Official Code.

At approximately 11:45 am on Wednesday, November 11, 2009, officers from the First District responded to the 1300 block of H Street, NE, to investigate the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located 21-year-old George Rawlings on the step of a Metrobus, suffering from apparent multiple gunshot wounds. Mr. Rawlings was transported by personnel from the DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
