Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have announced an arrest has been made in a fatal stabbing that occurred in the 800 block of Chesapeake Street, Southeast on Friday, June 9, 2017

At approximately 1:27 am, members of the Seventh District responded to the 800 block of Chesapeake Street, Southeast, for the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, members located an adult male suffering from a stab wound. The victim was unconscious and unresponsive. DC Fire and EMS transported the victim to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The decedent has been identified as 29 year-old Dominic Brooks, of Southeast, DC.

On Wednesday, June 14, 2017, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, 32 year-old William Edward Smith of Southeast, DC, was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder while Armed.
