Arrest Made in Homicide: 5000 Block of Ayers Place, SE

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have announced that an arrest has been made in the fatal shooting which occurred in the 5000 block of Ayers Place, Southeast.

On Saturday, December 29, 2012, at approximately 7:47 pm, DC Housing Police responded to the area of the 5000 block of Ayers Place, SE for the report of the sounds of gunshots.  During a canvass of the area they discovered an unresponsive adult male inside of a vehicle suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.  DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and determined that the victim had no signs consistent with life. He was later pronounced dead by a member of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.  Two additional adult male victims, who sustained apparent non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, were later located at a local hospital.

The decedent is identified as 22-year-old Darnell Rivers of Southeast, Washington, DC.

On Thursday, January 31, 2013, at approximately 5:14 pm, 23-year-old James Brown of Southeast, DC, was arrested by officers of the Sixth District pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant charging him with First Degree Murder in the shooting death of Darnell Rivers.
