Arrest Made in 1990 Murder Case

The Metropolitan Police Department has announced that an arrest has been made in the homicide of Charles Caldwell Haupt, who was stabbed to death on <?XML:NAMESPACE PREFIX = U1 /?><?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /?>35th Street, NW on September 26, 1990.  The case was closed on Thursday, January 21, 2010 when 57-year-old Frederick Morton was charged with First Degree Felony Murder in connection with the death of Mr. Haupt pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant.  Mr. Morton, who was already in custody at the DC Jail on an unrelated charge, was transported to the Homicide Cold Case Office where he was processed.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /?>

On Tuesday, September 26, 1990, at approximately 2:00 pm, members of the Second District responded to 1653 35th Street NW to investigate the report of a stabbing.  Upon arrival, they located an adult male suffering from stab wounds.  DC Fire Department emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.  The victim was identified as 62-year-old Charles Caldwell Haupt of the 35th Street address.
