Armored Car Robbery Shooting in Northeast

At approximately 10:20 am, on Thursday, May 25, 2006, a guard with the Dunbar Armored Car Company had just left the Safeway Food Store located at 1601 Maryland Avenue, NE, and was near his vehicle when two men approached him. One of the subjects produced a handgun, grabbed a bag containing an undetermined amount of cash, and shot the guard before fleeing. The guard suffered a gunshot wound to the body and was taken to an area hospital and admitted in stable condition. His name is being withheld because he is considered a witness in this case.


The suspects in this case are described as black males, ages unknown. One was approximately 6' tall, with a heavy build and shoulder length hair. and wearing a black tee-shirt, dark trousers and sunglasses. He was armed with a dark colored handgun. The second suspect is described as approximately 5'8" tall, 170 pounds and wearing a white tee-shirt and an orange and yellow visibility vest.


Anyone with information about this case is asked to call police at (202) 727-9099.  The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $10,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any robbery committed in the District of Columbia involving a life-threatening injury.
