2014 MPD Fitness Challenge Kickoff

Friday, June 6, 2014

Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier and members of the Metropolitan Police Department will kickoff the 2014 MPD’s “Biggest Loser” Fitness Challenge, on Friday, June 6, 2014. The fitness challenge is part of the Department’s overall wellness program and is open to sworn and civilian employees. Members will compete individually or on a team (up to eight people) and encourage each other to achieve their weight loss goals. This year’s participants will compete in two tracks: weight loss and fitness.

“As we enter the sixth year of the Biggest Loser Fitness Challenge, it is increasingly important that we continue to promote healthy living,” said Chief Lanier.  “Police officers and civilians who work for the MPD have stressful jobs.  Healthy eating and exercising can help members and their families to manage and cope with these stressors and also provide a positive outlet to relieve stress.”

MPD has partnered with Providence Hospital and numerous area businesses for the fitness challenge. The kickoff will include health screenings, giveaways, and demonstrations. Participants in the challenge can consult with fitness experts to develop individual workout plans. At the end of the 16-week challenge, the individuals and teams will weigh in to find out who the biggest loser is and who are the fittest men and women of the MPD.  Prizes will be awarded.
