During All Hands on Deck (AHOD), all available police officers and recruits with the Metropolitan Police Department are called to duty and assigned to street patrol citywide for 48 hours. All Hands on Deck began in 2007 as part of Chief Lanier’s Summer Crime initiative aimed at capping traditional summer crime trends by putting more officers on patrol and engaging them in one-on-one interactions with residents. It became such a useful crime fighting tool that it now occurs regularly throughout the year.
“Good police work, requires that every officer interact with the residents of the communities they are assigned to protect. The Department will continue to do all it can to provide the highest quality of service possible to our citizens,” said Chief Lanier. “All Hands on Deck is successful thanks to the support of residents and the dedication and hard work of my officers.”
