The Metropolitan Police Department announces an arrest in the assault of a DYRS staff member.

On Monday, April 18, 2011, units from the Fifth District were dispatched to the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /?>NewBeginningsDevelopmentCenter, in Laurel, MD to investigate an assault. Upon their arrival, they discovered that a DYRS staff member had been assaulted within the facility. Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene, treated and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment. 

On Monday, May 2, 2011, at approximately 4:05 pm, 18-year-old Treyon Cortez Carey of Hyattsville, MD, was arrested by members of the Metropolitan Police Department pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant charging him with Assault on a Police Officer.
