MPD Announces Arrests in Recent Robberies

Due to community concerns regarding robberies, the Metropolitan Police Department is releasing information on recent robbery arrests. Citywide there have been 243 arrests for robbery this year. Below are recent robbery arrests made within the last week.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /?>

First District

  • On Thursday, February 16, 2012, at approximately 9:00 pm., the victim was in the 500 block of 7th Street, NW, when a suspect snatched the victim’s I-Phone. On Friday, February 17, 2012, following an investigation by the First District Detectives Unit, a juvenile suspect was arrested for Robbery Snatch.

  • On Friday, February 17, 2012, an adult female suspect was arrested for Robbery Snatch in the 500 block of H Street, NW.

  • On Friday, February 17, 2012, at approximately 5:30 pm, an individual was assaulted by suspects who attempted to take the victim’s cell phone at Watkins playground in the 1200 block of D Street, SE.  The victim received minor injuries as a result of the assault. Shortly thereafter, members of the First District Mountain Bike Unit stopped and arrested two suspects in the 1200 block of I Street, SE.  Two juveniles were arrested for Assault with Intent to Rob.

  • Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at approximately 11:10 pm, a victim was in the area of 5th & H Streets, NW, when a suspect walked up behind and snatched the victim’s cell phone.  Shortly thereafter, members of the First District stopped and arrested the suspect in front of Union Station, 50 Massachusetts Avenue, NE. An adult male was arrested for Robbery Snatch.

  • On Thursday, February 23, 2012, at approximately 6:00 pm, an individual was exiting the Potomac Avenue Metro station located at 14th Street and Potomac Avenue, SE, when he was assaulted by a  male subject who obtained the victim's head phones.  An  investigation led to the arrest of an adult male subject and the recovery of the victim's property. The adult male was charged with Robbery Force and Violence.

Second District

  • On Tuesday, February 21, 2012, an adult male suspect was arrested for the Robbery of an establishment in the 5000 block of Connecticut Avenue, NW.

Third District

  • On Sunday, February 19, 2012, an adult male suspect was arrested for a Robbery Purse Snatch which occurred at 3:30 am in the 1400 block of U Street NW

  • On Monday, February 20, 2012, an adult male suspect was arrested for a Robbery Purse Snatch (Force) which occurred at 6:30 pm at <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /?>14th Street NW and Columbia Road NW.

Fourth District

  • On February 23, 2012, at approximately 1:50 am, a victim was in the 700 block of Upshur Street, NW when he was approached by two males. The victim was called a derogatory name and then knocked to the ground. The suspects then stole the victim’s wallet containing cash and fled on foot. The victim sustained minor injuries. A short time later, Fourth District patrol officers arrested two adult male suspects for Robbery Force and Violence.

Fifth District

  • On Saturday, February 18, 2012, a juvenile male arrested in connection with multiple robberies including a Robbery Hold Up Gun that occurred on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 9 am in the 1500 block of F Street NE; a Robbery Hold up gun that occurred on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 2 pm in the 1300 block of E Street NE; and an Assault with a Dangerous Weapon Gun that occurred Friday, February 17, 2012 in the 1700 block of Benning Road NE.

 

Sixth District

  • On Tuesday, February 21, 2012, a complainant was attacked and robbed just before 7 pm in the area of Texas Avenue and C Street, SE. During the course of the investigation, three juvenile males were stopped in the area that matched the description provided by the complainant.  Two of the juvenile suspects were identified, and one of the juvenile suspects had property recovered from him that was taken from the complainant at the time of the robbery.  All three juveniles were arrested for Robbery Force and Violence.
  • On Thursday, February 23, 2012, three subjects robbed a complainant at gunpoint at approximately 10:15 pm near a residence in the 3500 block of A Street, SE.  During the course of the robbery, the suspects obtained the keys to victim’s vehicle, entered the vehicle and fled the scene.  Several hours later, members of the First District located the stolen vehicle near the 1400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, S.E. After a brief foot chase, an adult black male was arrested and charged in the Robbery While Armed. The investigation continues.

Seventh District

  • On Saturday, February 18, 2012, a complainant reported being involved in a physical altercation in which suspects tried to take his property in the 3800 block of Halley Terrace, SE. An adult male was arrested for Assault with Intent to Robbery.

  • On Tuesday, February 21, 2012, a complainant reported that while he was working on a ladder painting a fence in the 2000 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, SE, a suspect took his wallet from his back pocket and knocked him off the ladder. An adult male suspect was arrested for Robbery Force and Violence

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $10,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any robbery committed in the District of Columbia.
