At approximately 11:15 last night, Monday, June 25, 2007, police were called to an apartment building in the 3700 block of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /?>16th Street, NW, for the report of a shooting.  Upon entering an apartment police found Samuel E. Garcia-Donis, approximately 31 years old, of the 3700 block of 16th Street, NW, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head.  DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to the scene but could not revive Garcia-Donis. He was taken to the Office of the DC. Medical Examiner where he was pronounced dead. 

Outside the apartment building police located a 34-year-old male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest and a 19-year-old male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the neck.  They were taken and admitted to an area hospital.  Their names are being withheld because they are considered witnesses in this case.

The case is under investigation by members of the department’s Violent Crimes Branch. Detectives are investigating the possibility that the shootings may have possibly been the result of a robbery.  They are also investigating to determine if this case is related to two robberies that occurred at 12:40 am on Tuesday, June 20, 2007, in an apartment building located in the 3600 block of 16th Street, N.W. and at 5:25 pm on Friday, June 22, 2007, at the same apartment building where last night’s shootings took place.

Police are looking for two men seen running from the building. They are generally described as two black males in their late teens or early twenties, between 5’10” to 6’ tall. One of the suspects has dreadlocks.  Both are believed to be in their late teens or early twenties.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call police at 202-727-9099.  The department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
