For the Public
The District licenses more than 15,000 Special Police Officers and Security Officers. These security personnel work on a variety of properties throughout the District, including government buildings, hospitals, and libraries. The Metropolitan Police Department appreciates the dynamic role that security personnel play in helping protect people and property within the District of Columbia. While we welcome all visitors to this webpage, it is primarily intended for the use of security personnel for updates on regulations and policy.
For the Security Professionals
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is excited to announce its new webpage – the Security Snapshot – for security personnel in the District. It is intended to help security personnel better understand the District’s often complex and sometimes misunderstood regulations and laws. Every other week, this webpage will be updated to include recently enacted legislation, changes in policy, current events, or community needs. Additionally, the webpage will offer responses to frequently asked questions that security personnel often ask of MPD. The webpage will include links to helpful resources such as job opportunities, MPD social media, and MPD alerts. In such a visible and important role, we hope that the Security Snapshot will support the commitment of security personnel to respond to the needs and concerns of District residents.
