Twenty-One Firearms Recovered over Weekend

SKS assault rifle among weapons seized; 2005 gun recoveries already top last year's total

At approximately 8:30 am, on Friday, November 18, 2005, Metropolitan Police executed a search warrant at a residence in the 1500 block of 6th Street, NW, and recovered an SKS assault rifle along with two banana shaped magazines and ammunition. The warrant was served as part of an ongoing investigation into individuals allegedly involved in burglaries and receiving stolen property.

This past weekend alone saw the recovery of 21 firearms by members of the MPDC.  The department continues in its efforts to recover illegal weapons. Over the past years, the number of gun recoveries by police agencies has increased steadily in the District of Columbia. In fact, the number of gun recoveries so far this year - 2,103 as of November 21 - has already exceeded the year-end total for all of 2004.
